Contemporary kitchens are not too common, but they usually have nice features like tall ceilings and are open to start with. This one needed an update from the original, and we created it with warm solid maple cabinetry and similar tones in the granite. We gave them lots more storage and a new seating area in the peninsula, along with one display cabinet of glass front doors and lighting to help break up the substantial amount of cabinetry. There is also a desk area around the corner that can be used for staging before taking food into the formal dining room. The rest of the kitchen opens into the family room, so its convenient for the family where they spend most of their time. There is a huge amount of counter space so they can prepare their large family meals with multiple cooks and not get in each other’s way. This kitchen is definitely the hit of the house.
