This large family kitchen needed changes to bring it into step with the family’s needs. We built in lots of storage, keeping the open floor plan so it maintains its togetherness feeling and functionality, and its place in the home. We used the latest materials, including hardwood cabinets, tile flooring, and granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. It even has a wine cooler for their collection. The large island serves as additional work space, so there’s no knocking elbows during food preparation. The double ovens also make it easy to have different meal courses cooking at one time. There is also bookcase space on the wall leading into the TV/reading/lounge area, helping keep that area organized as well. The peninsula serves as a breakfast area, as well as TV watching spot, and the kids can also do their homework there, with room to spread out. There’s still an informal dining area for the family, separate from their formal dining room, where the morning light streams in across the table through the floor to ceiling windows from the garden outside.
