Addition

After 40 years of their lives in this prominent Springfield neighborhood, they wanted to think of their aged in place home. The tolerated a carport for so long but it was enough. The Husband no longer was comfortable climbing of a step of stairs to get to second level bedroom and baths.
We have implemented a design for their aged in place lives to have a master suite in the back of their house. This space contained of a large Master suite with high ceiling, a first floor laundry room and storage, master bathroom just steps away from bedroom. Lot of closet space for his and hers was something they have always dream of having.
Due to slope of the backyard, we had to exercise a major excavation and grading plan to make this room possible,
The entire addition was coved with a matching brick to have a seamless connection with existing dwelling.
A new flagstone patio just outside of the French door of this master bedroom made a very relaxing place for husband to easily roll his wheelchair into it.
Wide doorways and another French side door to left side yard to allow the dog in and out. High ceiling and lots of windows has brought so much of this beautiful landscaped backyard into the bedroom.
A pair of French doors separating this master suite form rest of the house.
Master bathroom was wide enough to roll into with a large standing shower, grab bars, and hand held shower, light sensors and heated floors were all features of this universal design project.
A smooth hardwood floor seamlessly connected the old part to new.
She said “It has been such as blessing to have laundry room just outside of her bedroom and not climbing up and down stairs with her arthritis”.
The new garage expansion took over the old carpet offering a right side door to side garden to her to access her herb garden. Also a large storage in the back of the garage for added storage space and convenience of main level storage for grocery rather than carrying bags into the basement.
A smart underground drain system was put in place for this addition since the drainage has always been an issue.
A thermostatic remote control HVAC heat pump in the new attic serves as heating and cooling for this portion of the house. This will save a lot of money for them enable them to control temperature in the area that they spend most of their time and not the rest of the house.
Sitting on their paired rocking chairs and watching their favorite TV programs as they get to view the beautiful landscaped backyard now is their main hobby.
