2022 PRO Mid Atlantic Remodeler of the Year, Grand Award Entire House $350,000 – $550,000

  • A young couple has purchased a new single-family home in Vienna with the hope of a major home overhaul
  • After several design meetings with our staff, they laid the line on their desires for this home
  • Bold and elaborate is what they asked for. They have a modern yet eclectic taste. They have purchased a few Moroccan and middle eastern pieces and artworks. They wanted it to be incorporated into the design. They are big on moldings
  • The design team went to town and came up with an overhaul for the home
  • Starting with the 2nd floor, the master bathroom and bedroom were designed. The master bath was enlarged and revamped with a walk‐in shower, stunning black freestanding black tub, octanol tray ceiling, and black and gold fixtures.
  • The Master bedroom was reconfigured as we added windows and a wall, featuring a linear gas fireplace, a wide plank wood floor, and a walk-in closet. The double door of the closet was relocated to the sidewall. A multi‐layer of crown molding was also added
  • A part of the open second-floor foyer and a portion of the guest bedroom was closed up, and now, it is home to the 2nd-floor laundry room with a Moroccan tile flooring
  • The guest bedroom was redone with a walk‐in closet and by relocating one window
  • The entire house was furnished with a 5” wide plank gray hardwood flooring, a new railing system, and wrought iron rails
  • Going down to the main level, the old living room was opened up, and a large archway separated it from the two-story foyer. A new ceiling panel, crown molding and wainscoting, and gold and navy‐blue color themes were used to complement their new furniture. This room was converted into a formal dining room
  • Just across the foyer, the old dining room was converted into a library by adding wall panels and curved ceiling panels. The offset of mint green and cream paint has made a big impact on the look of this room
  • The old office was now changed into a guest suite/mother’s suite with added full bathroom
  • The new opening was made to install a Moroccan hand-carved door, keystone molding, and middle eastern hanging lights. The newly added full bath with a new glass block transom was designed with a black and white color scheme and 50th-century art deco design, featuring beaded wall panels, a furniture style vanity, and a walk-in shower
  • Just across the Mother’s suite, we have framed and relocated the powder room: Paneled walls and exquisite molding with furniture-style white vanity just look amazing
  • Now, walking into the back of the house, we re-arranged the family room. We added a few upper windows, closed and bricked up the window facing the new back porch, eliminated the build face facing place, and added a new fireplace. The center of the left wall of the two‐story family room was covered with floor-to-ceiling veneer stone. The new chandelier over the two stories has glamorized this space.
  • The kitchen was their biggest problem and almost caused them not to purchase this house. This was narrow and tight and had limited lights.
  • We removed a couple of major bearing walls and opened up the kitchen into the adjacent family room and sunroom
  • The back of the kitchen was bumped out with a new five‐foot‐deep addition covered in brick and a big picture window allowing lots of light to get into the kitchen.
  • Widening the kitchen allowed us to place the sink and cabinetry under it and made room for a large island with a 48” gas range top and a recessed hood over it
  • The south wall is home to a large-scale fridge and freezer, espresso maker, double stem oven, and more storage space
  • We have had to insert four major steel beams and supporting poles from the basement up to structurally allow this addition and open up the kitchen. The continuation of the wide plank wood floor throughout the entire house has made this seamless connection a lot more pleasing
  • We had added a set of new French doors and transom to the east wall of the hexagonal sunroom. This leads to a new stone outdoor patio and fireplace, also letting in more natural lights
  • The old laundry room and coat closet were demolished. We opened it up to be a new mudroom with locker style cabinet and a large walk‐in space for their future wine cabinets
  • The side of the mudroom was opened up. A new door, side porch, and steps were added to lead to the driveway. This was their main point of entry.
  • Here comes the fun part. He is a big cook and loves to grill and prepare grills for their friends during large gatherings
  • We have built a large-size screen porch outside of the kitchen, with a full set of 56” grill and hood, 20” cooker, 24” beverage center, warming drawer, and sink. All of it is covered with a middle eastern-style flowery tile and contrasting porcelain floor. The walls are done with matching brick, the ceiling in a beaded panel, ceiling fan, two infrared heaters, and a leading staircase to the back patio from the front door to the backyard.
  • This home was revamped and turned into a crown jewel: There were major design changes, structural changes, addition, flooring and staircase, detailed molding and trim packages, upscale appliances, exotic stones, and countertops. Unparalleled color schemes and product selections have made this entire house project one to feature in most upscale design magazines.
  • The basement was re-designed. The unfinished portion was converted into a 2nd full Kitchen with all appliances and facilities.
  • We dogged out a large window well for two e‐grass windows and converted storage space into a full side bedroom.
  • The main area of the basement was partitioned into small compartmental areas, and we opened up the places. A new gas fireplace was converted into stone for a cozy hang-out place. We enlarged the bathroom and 2nd bedroom in the basement. New LVT flooring and lighting made this basement a full 2nd quarter living space for in‐laws or rental space.
