Signs That Your Wine Cellar Is A Proper Wine Storage

Wine maturing and aging is both science and art. Unless your house is build in the 1900’s, you have to build your own wine storage. However, you do not just build a wine cellar and think that it is enough for wine storage.

In the past, our ancestors preserve wine in deep dark caves. The main reasons for these are: no light to penetrate, temperature, and motion. So how do you know that your wine cellar is a proper wine storage?

Temperature

What spoils a wine? Storage temperature above 70° Fahrenheit. Although Fahrenheit is the perfect temperature, don’t be alarmed if it varies a degree. Also, proper humidity will prevent the cork from drying out.

Light

Wine can somewhat be a vampire drink. It’s because wine does not like light – specifically, UV light. Make sure your wine cellar does not entertain excessive light. Have you noticed that wines are stored in dark shaded bottles? The colored bottle will help filter out UV light that might penetrate the wine.

Motion

If you shake the wine bottle, the wine inside it would age in a premature way. Therefore, it will cause the sediment at the bottom of the bottle to spread around. As much as possible, do not shake the wine and keep it from any vibration.

Arrangement

Why do you need to place a wine bottle sideways? First, it will prevent the cork from drying out, next, you can place more wine bottles because placing it sideways will give more space.

No matter how long you plan to age your wine, proper storage in a wine cellar is key. If you think you need help in having the right wine cellar, you will need the help of a professional.
