“A picture-perfect project”. Living in this older and small colonial home in Mclean suburb for more than fifteen years, have given this family the opportunity to contemplate moving to new but further away home, or stick it out and revamp this home that they have history with it.

The flat front elevation and old brick look was most bothersome to her, where the cramped kitchen and adjacent family room and front hall and dining room were not sitting well with him.

The second level had four small bedrooms, no room to expand. With two even smaller bathroom.

The teenage daughter wanted to have her own space.

There was an attic space used as storage space, with a low ceiling and not finished.

Okay then, starting from the front we have implemented a front porch with stone columns and flagstone floor and lead walk on this front elevation. Big check mark off her wish list. The water table was covered in complimentary stone.

The entire house was painted in a soft cream top, New architectural roof shingles and fascia was installed.

Three new dormers in front and a big 10 feet dormer in the back were added, allowing lots of light into new attic space. As well as raising the ceiling entire in same area. New craftsman style front door has brought home the final touch to this transformation.

Entering in the front hall, it was tight, to the left a closet and to the right dining room walls created a dark and narrow hallway.

We have removed the closet, took down the dining room walls, opened up the side wall of staircase, replaced all the old slate floor with matching dark stained hardwood floors.

The bearing walls between Dining room and kitchen was taken out and we expanded the kitchen all the way into the dining room. A new pantry space with pocket door was implemented on front right corner, and work station space under front window of the old dining room.

The big challenge of this job was opening up solid brick and block wall about 30 ft long between kitchen/dining room into adjacent Family room. Implanting a steel beam across the entire 30 feet width allow us to open up to adjacent cathedral ceiling family room. Lots of duct chased and flu pipes were embedded in this wall and had to be rerouted to allow this opening.

A big window was installed in the back wall of kitchen given a lot cabinetry and counter space.

A large scale multi-functional Island made place in middle of kitchen and dining room, upscale and a beauty.

New wood flooring through out three level of this home has brought a unity from top to bottom. New French doors were installed leading into back screen porch area. The old fireplace was refaced with stone and Tv placed above it.

Now we walk up the steps to second floor. The were willing to give up the smallest bedroom to relocate the Master bath and closet into this space., We had to move window, duct and bearing wall to allow two feet to master bedroom and then create a double vanity space, large shower and a his/her closet with built ins for them.

The old master bathroom was added to hall closet space, given them a larger bath with walk in stall, and third bathroom for this growing family.

The attic was framed up to be their girl’s bedroom/loft. We raised portion of ceiling and created dormers make head room, New window, New flooring, a ductless heating and cooling system, built in closet, new rails and steps finish up this room as her wished came through.

The massive transformation of this small home to become a craftsman home with total exterior look and entirely revamped interior plans have given several more years to stay and enjoy their home.
