Single-family rambler located in a fast-growing neighborhood just outside of Pentagon City was getting ready to get its well-deserved facelift. The two bedrooms, one bath, under a 1000 square feet main level with stairs leading into two small dormer bedrooms on the second level was just running out of space for this family.
She needed a first level office and a seating area for her in-home practice and visiting patients. We all agreed with a plan to blow out the back of the rambler as well as adding a totally new second floor. The back addition is the home to a large gourmet kitchen, family room, and behind a set of French doors is a sunroom for reading and her serenity place. The stairway was relocated to create a better flow on the main level. A sundeck was added just outside of nine feet French doors of the family room. A stone-covered gas log fireplace was the jewel of this family room. The new kitchen was equipped with cherry cabinetry, granite top and upgraded appliances. New hardwood floor adds a seamless connection among every room of this level. Creating wide archways kept the authenticity of the original 1950s home. Adding a new arched front porch with brick floor and new front door uplifted the street appearance of this rambler.
The second level is now home for a master suite bedroom, a new master bath equipped with massage tub, curved shower, large vanities and gorgeous coloring. A Juliet balcony just outside a set of French doors. A new hall bathroom for the other enlarged bedrooms. New HVAC system for the second level of this home. A blessing of second floor laundry room outside of master suite. She no longer has to do laundry in the basement.
The entire house was wrapped in two color tones of Hardie plank and new architectural roofing and a couple of skylights. All made the exterior appearance of older ramble belonging to the new upcoming neighborhood. All around the driveway, flagstone walkway and nicely done landscaping has contributed to the fancy yet cute home.
