This single-family colonial brick home located in Mount Vernon estate section of Alexandria has been the home to this baby boomers getting themselves to taste the retirement era of their lives.
The master bedroom suite was decent, its dimension was adjacent to a seating/dressing area that was hardly used, cramp size walk-in closet and an outdated master bathroom.
The bathroom was facing the south side of the yard with a beautiful wooded background and view of the swimming pool. A small window was in this bathroom. The existing bathroom was dysfunctional and was not satisfying his and her needs.
We have implemented new floor plans that eliminated a bearing wall among the old dressing room and bathroom area. The attic above had the air handler positioned just above this wall and had all the duct work running through this wall. We had to relocate and reposition the air handler in order to lift up the inserted new header and make room for a seamless connection between two rooms.
The space adjacent to this bathroom was an attic storage space, separated by cinder block walls from the bathroom. We needed an area of 6’x7’ to place the new sauna room. We have busted through the cinder block wall and insert a steel beam header to create an opening for steam room placed in this wasted area.
The south wall that was facing the wooded backyard was taken over by a much wider fixed picture window allowing more of that beautiful scenery into this new bathroom. The back brick and block held its own challenges to allow the larger window. Then, we were able to position the new whirlpool tub under this large window.
Just to the left of the large tub, we have built a very large walk-in steam shower with body sprays and lots of other gadgets.
The west side of this bath which was taken over with a small closet, toilet and bidet was revamped to have a separate water closet room and large make up area with bonus cabinetry space.
This gorgeous Master bathroom began with a set of glass pocket doors, his and her long and extended vanities of both sides, facing the whirlpool tub and all-stoned steam shower on the back wall.
The vivid color tones, exotic stone tile floor and walls, heated floor, steam shower and rain shower, separate sauna room and make up area have glorified this magnificent Master suite bathroom.
The extended reconfiguration, structural, plumbing and mechanical modifications to this unique bathroom was beyond imagination.
The couple and the remaining members of the family have been amazed by this big transformation, loved the excitement of new bathroom and its glorifying amenities.
Few things are scratched off the bucket list.
