Kitchen Remodeling
Middle age couple with two youngsters and a dog lived in a moderate Reston community for over 10 years. Since she had moved 10 years ago, she was never happy with the way the kitchen layout and her small front entry were situated. The stairway looked cramped and narrow, the formal dining room was not serving a great purpose for their lifestyle, a need of mud room for kids and dog was a lot more essential.

Our design team has proposed to take out the dining room completely.
Added 4 feet of old dining room into kitchen to combine the space to make it more functional.
Moved garage doorway from front entry to old dining room and enclosure the remaining area for mudroom with pantry. storage (locker style) and a walk station area.
Removed walls from side of the stairway to create openness.
Built a large closet with shoe rack system for lots of shoe storage.
Installed header on west wall.
Installed double large window, move sink and dishwasher under it.
Ran gas line and ventilation through ceiling joist for mantel hood and new gas range top.
Took down large amount of bulkheads relocated all duct work for second floor into a stack style and ran through floor joists.
Widen a bearing wall between kitchen and family room for added visual and more natural lights.
Added lot of LED lighting, in cabinet and under cabinet lighting.
Added pendant lighting over the island.
Installed wide plank imported Exotic wood floor thorough to more continuity and better flow.
Installed taller cabinet with matching crown molding throughout.
Install a Large center Island (which now possible by eliminating the closet in kitchen) and wider kitchen with Distressed wood counter top.
Installed an exotic stone counter top with farm sink.
Lot s of glass front cabinetry for showing off her prized Chinas.
Conclusion: Now front entry no large is cramped to one door (which handing of got changed as well), open staircase, leading hallway to large kitchen . Being a gourmet cook she gets to enjoy her time in kitchen while the mud room and work station make her daily chores a lot simpler.
