HOME REMODELING
A MULTI-AWARD WINNING REMODEL IS THE ESSENCE OF STYLE
MICHAEL NASH DESIGN BUILD TRANSFORMS AN ASHBURN HOME INSIDE AND OUT.
“The modern style of this finished project is really compelling to us as designers,” says Sonny Nazemian, master designer/remodeler.
AN ASHBURN COUPLE WAS FEELING CRAMPED IN THEIR SINGLE FAMILY HOME AND DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO REMODEL.
“The kitchen was very outdated with wooden cabinetry that matched the floor, and old appliances with a cook top in the island,” says Sonny Nazemian, master designer/remodeler at Michael Nash Design Build. “But even more important, the space was very cut up with walls which left the homeowners feeling blasé about their main living space. We were looking to bring some life and style to the area and make the kitchen more usable.”
The first steps in the project were taking down a bearing wall between the kitchen and family room and putting in a recessed beam, adding a cathedral ceiling and extending the kitchen with an 300-square foot breakfast room addition. This created the open living space the homeowners were looking for and large sliding glass doors provide access to the new patio and bring in more light.
To make a better workspace in the kitchen, a new 48” professional stove was relocated to the west wall, surrounded by beautiful floor to ceiling cabinetry and a custom wood hood. The island is now home to a stainless steel farmhouse sink, dishwasher and microwave to make cooking and clean up easy. The North wall holds the large scale refrigerator and freezer towers, pantry space and a tall unit of secondary oven and steam oven.
“The modern style of this finished project is really compelling to us as designers,” says Sonny. “The white cabinetry, white tiled backsplash and light soapstone countertops bring light and cleanness to the entirety of the living space. The dark wide-plank espresso hardwood flooring and stainless steel appliances and hardware plays nicely and adds pop and contrast. The small detail of putting thicker quartzite on the 10-foot island adds elegance.”
The next elements of this whole-home renovation are a hall and master bathroom and a new flagstone and stacked stone patio space for outdoor living.
Two feet was excavated for the patio and the stacked-stone wall was created as a sitting bench for entertaining. This space is easily accessed from the new breakfast room addition which means more use and brings guests outside when entertaining.
The master bathroom was enlarged by taking two feet from the bedroom which allowed for a new shower space. The old built in jacuzzi gave way to a new freestanding tub. Carraralook porcelain tile on the floor and shower wall, along with the floating wall-mounted vanities with vessel sinks create an upscale, stunning look.
In the hall bathroom, the old cramped bathtub is now a walk-in shower and wood look porcelain tile and pebble stone bring a spa feel to the area.
“It’s amazing how a well executed renovation can transform your life,” says the homeowner. “In day-to-day living and for entertaining, it’s like being in a completely new space.”
