This
very small kitchen had potential, but the builder design included a separate
laundry room in the hallway to the garage, making the kitchen very long and
narrow and very cramped. In order to gain space in the kitchen, we moved the
laundry upstairs, and moved the wall back to get that space into the kitchen.
This allowed us to put a bank of cabinetry around the refrigerator on that
wall, and also add a peninsula for serving and storage. We wrapped the kitchen
in cabinetry in a U-shape, maximizing the counter space and storage space.
We even created an appliance garage and wine bottle storage. The backsplash
tiles are installed on a diagonal for interest and making the area seem larger.
Another nice feature we designed into this kitchen, is a serving drawer on
the back of the peninsula, for table cutlery, putting it in a convenient place.
The cherry cabinetry is finished in simple mouldings and door panels, giving
it a high end cabinet maker's touch.
