The old home that this kitchen and dining room are in was divided up into very
small rooms. This new kitchen and dining area takes the place of two rooms. The
kitchen was behind the wall that just barely protrudes from behind the double
ovens now, replaced by a steel I beam support in the ceiling. There was only
a small doorway between them before, and now they are one large comfortable
room, with a lot more light. We designed the kitchen to take up some of the
space of the former dining room, with the new large island and the bank of pantry
cabinets surrounding the refrigerator and ovens. We also designed a hutch area
with glass front cabinets and serving counter space, in the new dining area.
We preserved the doorway to the garage behind the dividing wall. The homeowners
wanted to have a small bar area, so we created one opposite the sink, with a
wine refrigerator in the lower cabinets and glass front upper cabinets for the
glassware. We also vented the cooktop through the floor to the outside to avoid
having a vent hood. |
