This
kitchen is located in a home with wonderful views of a lake, but you could
not see it from the kitchen at all! The homeowners wanted to open up the whole
area and take advantage of the view, as well as keep the storage space and
give it an updated look. We took out the wall between the kitchen and the
dining area giving them a full view of the "sunroom" windows overlooking
the lake. This opening also gave them some additional counter space, with
a raised counter to give a bit of concealment of the counter behind it. We
installed cherry cabinetry, with upper cabinets lit to show the owners crystal
through glass doors. The cooking peninsula top has an overhang to accomodate
a stool so someone can socialize with the cook, and there is also a breakfast
bar at the far end, at which the homeowners can sit and take in the long view
through their home to the back. We made a custom shelf unit for the wife to
store her many cookbooks next to the refrigerator, and put in a bar area next
to the double ovens. We were able to give them more storage space in spite
of removing cabinets with the wall.
