This country style kitchen was dark and dated and the owners had lived with
it for nearly 20 years. They wanted to udpate it and brighten up the space.
They wanted to upscale the design and appliances, and get better lighting. They
chose to have a contrasting granite with the white cabinets, and pale yellow
walls. We removed soffits and installed tall upper cabinets, giving them additional
storage space. We enlarged the window over the sink to allow more light in,
as well as installed recessed lights and removed the faux ceiling beams between
the fluorescent fixtures. The tile floor is a contrasting tan that blends in
with the wood flooring in the dining room next door, and the colors in the family
room next door. The peninsula has drawers on the table side that keep the table
settings, and the end shelves on the upper cabinet give them display space.
The homeowner is particularly small, so we moved the upper cabinets down so
she could reach the upper shelving. |
