This
new large kitchen addition added a significant amount of space to the home,
as well as giving them a more comfortable space to cook and socialize. They
also got the bonus of a storage space on the outside of the addition for
their landscaping tools. The new addition extended the existing kitchen
space to twenty feet and the entire depth of the home. This gave them more
natural lighting, space for a new larger dining table, as well as an island
with counter stools, and a powder room just near the basement stairs. The
addition has high ceilings which help to give the larger feel to the room,
as well as allowing the homeowners to have a darker color on the walls,
without making the room feel smaller. The light pallette of the cabinetry
and the granite countertop contrasts with the deep blue of the walls, and
the complimentary window treatments. The dark wood flooring helps give it
a traditional feel, which is in keeping with the rest of the home's antiques.
The pendant lighting over the island also ties in with the home's traditional
feeling, in spite of the stainless steel appliances and granite countertops.
The tumbled backsplash, with the metal tile accents on the stove backsplash,
helps tie it all together. The homeowners wanted a wine cooler installed
in the island in order to assist with entertaining, as well as the larger
side-by-side refrigerator and commercial range. The cabinetry is tapered
at the ends, which gives more room to the door leading out to the backyard,
and the hardware is in keeping with a more traditional style throughout
the home. The powder room is in a modern style interpretation of the traditional
dresser wash bowl, on a dark wood toned cabinet. |
