This lovely renovation of an older Vienna home included a complete renewal of all its systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, insulation, lighting, paint and flooring, as well as a new second story, front porch and finished basement. This home was enlarged by adding a second story, and reconfiguring the main level spaces and basement. The main level bedrooms were opened up to create a formal dining room, home office, larger kitchen, music room and living room areas. The bedrooms are now in the upstairs addition, with one added to the basement. The upper level now has the large master suite with huge master bath and closets that the homeowners wanted, plus bedrooms for each of the children, who were sharing before, as well as a full hall bath for the kids. The new center staircase leads up to the second story addition. The new front porch was a special request, too, as they wanted to have a country style home that they could enjoy when the weather is nice, as well as have exceptional curb appeal. This family was interested in quality materials, and have hardwood flooring throughout the second story addition, as well as on the main level. Their kitchen features hardwood cherry cabinetry and granite counters as well as the most efficient new appliances and increased storage and dining space. All of the upstairs rooms have large closets, which they did not have in their tiny bedrooms in the old house, and a large full bath with space for everyone.

All systems were upgraded, as well as adding the necessary new ductwork and heating and air conditioning capacity, electrical wiring and plumbing for the second story addition. New windows and doors, insulation and energy efficient appliances, water saving plumbing fixtures, and more, help to make the larger home as efficient as possible for its size. On the exterior, there is new insulation, siding, windows and roofing. This home is much better sealed that the old one was, making it more energy efficient, as well as more comfortable in temperature extremes.

The new kitchen is incredibly large, now that the main level has no bedrooms, there is space to enlarge it, as well as the powder room, which had been shared by the two bedrooms that were on this level in the original house.

The new music room was the former living area, and we opened up the basement stair with a "pass-through" from it, which helps connect the basement to the rest of the main living area. We also opened up the passage to the music room, so that the basement stair is accessible from it as well as the kitchen. The former small bedroom on the main level has been converted to the home office, with sliding french doors that help keep it bright and connected to the living spaces. The remodeled basement is now fully finished, with a new bedroom and bath, as well as storage and family gathering space.
