This
older home was very cramped and divided into very small rooms for the kitchen,
dining and living room areas. The owners wanted to have a larger conjoined
space, and better flow through the area. We created a unique addition with
a stone fireplace, that is part of the new kitchen dining/living area. To
accomplish this, we removed the walls between all of the rooms, as well
as a hall closet, that opened up the access to the new area. We gave them
a new larger kitchen with breakfast area, desk area, and much larger pantry
and storage space, since they are a growing family. There is an angled eating
counter, that mirrors the shape of the addition, which helps give the room
some definition, where the old rear wall of the house used to be. The former
dining room area is now part of the access to the family room portion of
the addition. We upgraded their split stair to match the look and quality
of the materials in the new addition. One big change for them is that this
room will not flood when it rains, as the house used to do. We have raised
the addition up and regraded the rear yard for better drainage. |
