PROBLEMS/ GOALS

Existing space is 2,500 square foot partially finished (shelled-in) lower level suite that includes fireplace. Owners were utilizing as open entertainment area zoned for billiards, ping pong, electronic entertainment. Cased-in vertical support shafts are plainly visible from throughout. Open cavernous expanse, however, stripes the suite of necessary human-scale—the effect being that of an overly large suburban recreation room.

The primary goal, was to scale-down the massive openness, delineating activity areas with a series of well-articulated and varied interior focal points that are self-contained, appropriate to use-objectives and integrated into the larger scheme.

The double layer of exotic granite stone on the bar is one of the nicer features of this project
4 stone columns to delineate open media area (adjacent to bar)

stone course—7’ from ground-- to match columns

L-shaped wall of stone defines casual seating area

remove existing fireplace cladding; fireplace re-faced to the ceiling with limestone (acid-washed for rough finish

12’ x 20’ finished with crown moulding and lighting for owner’s art studio

Lighting and Sound:

built-in soffit, fascia with crown moulding for indirect lighting

              wall scones

low voltage recessed halogen lighting throughout

20 speaker Bose “Surround Sound” with independently zoned access for each room

            HTML wiring for cable

This project overall achieved the customer’s vision to divide a very large and open space into a more suitable entertainment area for their children, their envisioned high end bar, and yet leaving enough room to have sufficient space to host large elegant parties.
